Bulbasuar is the easiest to raise. Squirtle is a little harder to raise, and Charmander is the hardest. However, the rewards for level ing CHarmander into Charizard are much greater.

Mercenary Rubia answered:

I would suggest Squirtle because if your opponent is using a fire, you have the upper hand, and if they use a grass, I would highly suggest that you teach him/her ice beam or blizzard. That way you have the upper hand on both starting pokemon.

MASTERTHINKER answered:

Personaly I would pick Charmander because it is easy to train but hard to defeat and if you are worrying about the first gym leader go to the route that leads to Victory Road and catch yourself a manky then train it till it learns low kick, why you ask, because rock types are weak against fighting types. Good luck, and hope I helped.

dude charmander kicks ass in the first 2 gyms because with brock charmander at lv 13 learns metal claw and he can learn mega kick if you teach it to him before you enter cerulean city and with enough training you can one shot starmie
Guest answered:

Pick Charmander. He is a little tough to train in the beggining however he learns a powerful steel type move early on which will help you get past Brock. Even with Misty, all i had to use was scratch and got rid of her water pokemon easily. Charmander is standalone until you catch stonger pokemon later on to build up ur dream team. In the end though, a Charizard will pretty much flat=out stomp anything that comes your way. Keep sticking with 1 pokemon until u need to use ur first HM, then you can catch ^^.

I , personally recommend Charmander. When my Charmander gor metal claw, I beat Brock easily. And for Misty, I took him to level 36 and when he became a Charizard, I beat her with wing attacks. Now, my Charizard has flamethrower, fire blast, blast burn and wing attack.
Guest answered:

I Always used to pick Charmander,But i got sick of it.So now i use Squirtle,And the whole point of the game is too get an ultimate team to beat the poke league. So i suggest you get a squirtle, then catch a Pikachu and a pidgy. And work with those 3.Then get a Eevee and Evolve it into a Flareon.

Guest said: 26th Jan 2017 | REPORT
Don't choose squirtle, cause your rival gets bulbasAur and he can teach him sleep Powder. Real disadvantage
Guest answered:

Your choice depends on how much you would like to train your Pokemon. Bulbasaur is easy to train like most grass-type Pokemon, meaning if you pick Bulbasaur your Rival will pick Charmander (he always pick the one that's your Pokemon's weakness) and Charmander when gets higher levels is stronger then the other two. Squirtle is a little harder to train then Bulbasaur but can learn Swim & Dive but Charmander can learn Cut & Fly which you learn in the beginning of the game, and so personally I would pick Charmander because his Strength and HM's are better to suit me. But just a tip, never make all your Pokemon one type of Pokemon, have variety!

Guest answered:

I pick Squirlte
A: It has few weaknesses
B:It's good against the first gym (Pick Up A Pikachu)
C:It can pick up ice beam/blizzard to beat Bulbasaur
D:it's FREAKIN' AWESOME

Guest answered:

I would suggest getting a Squirtle. Like in previous quotes. He can learn Ice Beam which will tear apart grass types. Spoiler:

click to reveal
You can also pick up a Pidgey to add extra fire power against grass pokemon. I suggest a team with Squirtle, Pidgey, Pikachu, Magikarp, Growlithe, and maybe Mankey. Get them all fully evolved and you should be KICK A**.

Dafuq you need Gyarados for if you have Blastoise?
Guest answered:

In my opinion Charmander is the best choice for starters if you train him and teach him steel claw before you get to the first gym you atomatically win because steel beats rock he can also take on Misty if you train him and only him (don't catch other Pokemon) and make him Evolve into charzard which means skipping the second gym and battling every trainer you see. The after you use him to beat misty and lt serge get a dratini at the Game Corner at the next town and evolve him into dragonight. This will help alot cause dragonight can learn fire water electric dragon ice and flying attacks which will make you destroy every one. I used these only Pokemon to beat the Elite Four but needed to catch Pokemon to teach hms

Guest answered:

I would chosse a squrtile because he learns ice beam and hydro cannon and hydro pump and because water is the best type

Guest answered:

I'd definitely go with Charmander. Viridian Forest can be a great place to level up once you have Ember and since Charmander learns Metal Claw at level 13, getting through the first gym shouldn't be a problem at all. The only really challenge with a Charmander is Misty, but by this point most people have already caught a Pikachu or an Oddish, both of which go to town on her Water Pokemon.

In addition to all this, Charizard (Charmander's final evolution) has the highest Attack, Special Attack, and Speed stats of the three starters. It also learns both Flying and Dragon type moves, making it a desirable member to have when facing Bruno or Lance.

Bulbasaur is the best Pokemon for a person new to the game as beating the first few gym leaders and places you can go will be easier than with any other Starter Pokemon. It will have more trouble with Pokemon later in the game when you have had a chance to learn the game and train new pokemon.

Squirtle I don't really see too much of a point too. Its basically between Bulbasaur and Charmander. In the middle - somthing that does not make it the easiest to work with. I don't reccomend it.

Charmander - Your going to have trouble the first few gyms and some of the places you go. But it is a powerful Pokemon when you learn how to use it. It takes effort and is more difficaly to raise for a new player. I don't reccomend it for new people to Pokemon but for players that know how to play the game - this is the Pokemon for you!

Guest answered:

Hey all of those are good pokemon

Actully I would say Bulbasaur cause he could get you though the first to gyms easiy

Charmander because he forces you to learn the games mechanics more. Sure, he's tougher to train. You'll make up for it by catching Pokemon to compensate where Charmander fails. Plus the reward of Charizard being a wrecking crew on it's own is reason enough.

I recommend Squirtle because it has the upperhand with fire types and you can teach it ice beam and also have the upperhand with it's weakness grass types...

I would also choose Charizard because it is hard to defeat and learns attacks that no other fire types would normally learn like dragon claw, Dragonbreeath,etc...

Guest answered:

Just Charmander. A lot stronger than the others and you can defeat the second gym easily by teaching him ''Mega Kick'' on the way to the town. So Charmander rules!

Guest answered:

You could pick Charmander. I recommend him, but you will need Pikachu (catch him in Viridian Forest or Power Plant) to beat Misty. It will be hard facing the E4 But don't worry. YOU HAVE PIKACHU AND YOU WILL ALSO NEED A DRATINI AND A PSYCHIC TYPE! Good luck!!

Guest answered:

Hahaha, it depends. STATISTICALLY is Charizard the best choice. Then Blastoise and last Venusaur. However, if you want a balanced team I personally recommend using a fire, water and grass/electric type. There are TONS of good water Pokemon like Gyarados or Lapras, also a good amount of AMAZING Fire Pokemon like Arcanine and Moltres. But few good grass/electric pokemon. Zapdos and Exeggutor are your best bet. So, what I'm trying to say here, is if you'd choose Venusaur as your Starter you still have access to both water and fire Pokemon and you don't have to worry about a grass or electric pokemon. So that's why I usually recommend Bulbasaur as your starter. Smile Also because after you have completed the game you have the chance to catch Entei! :3 If you chose Squirtle, Raikou. And If you chose Charmander, Suicune.

My favorite Pokemon is Arcanine, and since having two fire types is a bit otiose I almost never choose Charmander as my Starter.

They are all three good additions to your team and you won't regret choosing any of them ^^

Guest answered:

Pick who you want it shouldnt matter what everyone else says... Its your choice

Guest answered:

Charizard ALL THE WAY!! He flat out KO's anyone once up in levels. I made the dumb mistake of always using him so I have him leveled at 50 by like the third gym, now he's lvl 93 and pretty much with flamethrower and I think overheat or something he one shots anything except blastoise. The only Pokemon I've ever faced in this game that can stand up against him is a blastoise.. Then for charizard he can learn Fly, so use fly against him. I demolish and steamroll everyone. It's very hard to find a good fire type but I can easily find a water type. Grass types are just useless.. But I have a dratini and lapras both lvl 30 something and an ice I use dewgong which those are great water types. So charizard is the best

pkmnvenusaur answered:

I always choose Bulbasaur. I've been choosing it for so long, it feels wrong to choose something else. It's easy to raise, and vine whip always 1 hit KOs Brock's pokemon. I found him helpful for the Elite Four, and It's just really easy to train. I hope this helps in your Pokemon journey. Smile

I use dratini in the beginning. Out of three of Dratini. weedle, and growlithe I always chose dratini but my rival picks weedle OF COURSE. Its unstoppable
Guest answered:

Charmander. You're less likely to find a fire Pokemon for a long while. Unless you use cheats or Trade. It takes a while to get to the Mansion and the Islands after beating the Elite Four the First Time.

Guest answered:

It all depends on your team think about what you will catch later and then make your decision

Guest answered:

I would choose Squirtle or Charmander because venasaur has no chance at all because your Rival will have a big advantage with a fire flying type at the end. This is my opinion.

Guest answered:

I think Chamander is the best because fire has the lest amount of things super effective against it, and he is also the best looking in my opinion. Also when chamander has evolved int charmeleon then Charizard (ground is super effective against fire) ground moves can't affect it because it is a flying type and ground can't affect flying types unless it uses smack down.

I would pick squrtile because when it fully evolves or when it turns into war tortle it's kicks A and when you get squrtile the best team to go with it when you beat the fourth gym is Wartortle or BLASTOISE CH'dling Pikachu and a sparrow as a back up

I chose Bulbasaur, because the first 2 gyms is rock and water type gym leaders and Bulbasaur is a grass type which is a good match-up against Brock and Misty who specialize in Rock types and Water types.

Guest answered:

I think Charmander is the best Starter and looks great and

Powerful while evolving into Charizard and it's moves are

Really great and if it learns metal claw it is powerful

Than rock type dig then electric type are weak and

Sometimes it is uaeful at some Pokemon like dewgong and

Lapras because they are ice type Pokemon also so it can be

Effective because in the bar it is also shown that there is

Nothing written and Squirtle is the second best Starter

It can easily defeat pewter gym with it's water type moves

After that in cerulean just a little bit hard and in

Vermilion it's dig move can win because it is super

Effective on electric type because dig is a ground type

Move in Celadon City ice attacks can work and in saffron

City it's bite because dark type moves are effective

Against psychic type and in fuchsia gym again ice attacks

Can work and in cinabar island again any water type move

Can defeat this gym and in viradian gym again any water

Type move is super effective and Rival's stronger Pokemon

Is also not very effective because of it's ice attacks
And Bulbasaur it is effective in pewter gym' cerulean gym

And in vermillion gym electric attacks are not very

Effective on it and in celadon all grass type attacks are

Not very effective so you all can use normal type moves

Like I suggest take down in fuchsia gym not very effective

So again try to use normal moves and in Saffron City I

Think it can loose definately because psychic type are

Super effective against grass Pokemon and in the cinabar

Gym no chance it will loose fast and in viradian gym ok all

Grass moves can work like razor leaf vine whip and solar

Beam

Not very effective so you all can use normal type moves

Like I suggest take down in fuchsia gym not very effective

So again try to use normal moves and in Saffron City I

Think it can loose definately because psychic type are

Super effective against grass Pokemon and in the cinabar

Gym no chance it will loose fast and in viradian gym ok all

Grass moves can work like razor leaf vine whip and solar

Beam

Different Pokemon have different values and Bulbasaur is useful in the first few gyms and is easy to train but later in the Koga and celadon gym he ain't that good Squirtle is also easy to train but throughout the story he's stupid.Charmander is damn useful and helps get an easy win in gyms if you train properly he's good to beat or Rival too.Good luck!

Is alllways go for a fats Starter in this case Charmander the way I see it is give a fats Pokemon strong attacks you can get hits of first to end battles quickly so I would chose charmander

Guest answered:

Thunder unless you get a crit or Blastoise is severally underpowered won't kill Blastoise in one hit, thus opening up the way for Blastoise to counter with earthquake while this may not kill a jolton or raichu in one hit it will do substantial damage further opening the way for another Pokemon to take out the opposing electric type.

The words: CHOOSE Charmander!!!!! He is very good in all three evolutions and I would recommend teaching him blast burn from that lady on Three Island because it has 150 attack! Also yeah charrizard is BEAST MODE!!!

NovanWalker answered:

Go with Squirtle due to him not taking much to get to a walking tank as Blastoise and then get Pikachu and Pidgey for resonably good Pokemon throughout the game (unless you wait and swap Pikachu for Electabuzz later on from the Power Plant around Lv.32-34.) Lapra you get from Silph Co.for defeating Giovanni and the Ice and Water type helps immensely with the Elite Four. For a fire type get a Growlithe at the Pokemon Mansion and make it Arcanine with a fire stone for an OP speed Pokemon, otherwise go for Flareon from Eevee. Last Pokemon is up to you. Maybe a fighting type like Hitmonlee or Hitmonchan who you gt from Saffron City in the old gym. I used Snorlax who was THE tank with over 200HP for battling.

Guest answered:

You should start with Bulbasaur and then get a magicarp and level it up in Mt. Moon. After that you can use the gyrados that evolved from magicarp to beat any fire types, and to use as an extra powerhouse.

Guest answered:

I will say choose the Pokemon which can learn strong attacks which can kill a type which is stronger to your Pokemon. For example blastoise is water type but it can learn earthquake which is harmful to electric types. Also if you are facing a fire type with a blastoise(this is an example) and the pp of all your water type moves are finished, you can use earthquake.and boom

Squirtle is a really good all arounder so I would reccomend him when it comes down to stats

Guest answered:

Bulbasaur is perfect for beginners. It can easily mop up Pokémon in the Pewter, Cerulean, and Viridian Gyms, and resists the Pokémon in the Vermilion and Celadon Gyms. It is also unaffected by the Poison status ailment. It may have trouble with the Saffron and Cinnabar Gyms, but at that point in the game you should have some great Pokémon to back it up. Bulbasaur's final form, Venusaur, is capable of learning Earthquake, a useful move when facing Fire-type Pokémon. Due to Sludge Bomb being Unobtainable until post Elite 4, Venusaur will only have Grass type moves for STAB.

Guest answered:

You can take Bulbasaur he easily beat the first three gyms. .You can catch lapras a good water/ice Pokemon.A Nidoking/Nidoqueen a strong poison ground Pokemon. You can also catch Pikachu.A Flareon is good. You can also catch pidgeot A Normal/Flying type

Guest answered:

Just chose whatever you want because there Pokemon that you catch before hand. Early in the game in the road towards Victory Road you can find mankey to fight Brock. Cross the nugget bridge for oddish to fight Misty. Catch a diglett in diglett cave for Surge. Smile

Guest answered:

Bulbasaur is the best Starter. Not only is it easy to raise, but it also has the uppuer on hand on the first three gym leaders: Brock, Misty, and Lt. Surge. Not only this, it is also good against the Team Rocket boss, Giovanni.

Guest answered:

I would go for Charmander if you enjoy a good challenge

Guest answered:

Best is to start with Charmander
And when training him speed up to x16 then you will battle very fast and fast level up
